Route Review:
•Both the regular and the long routes bike around Keuka Lake -- many people rank Keuka Lake as their number 1 Finger Lake for scenic beauty. On the east side, both loops take advantage of the smaller, more scenic E Lake Roads to take the cyclists off the busy Rt 54 Hwy.
•For those that want a shorter, easier route for the day, the 18 mile Bluffs ride is a wonderful ride with great views along the East and then the West Bluff Roads.
•The Depot Park rest stop in Hammondsport is in a beautiful location on the southern tip of Keuka Lake. After we leave Depot Park, we bike on West Lake Rd (Rt 54A) all the way up to Branchport. For the regular route riders, if they have extra energy after the Keuka Lake SP rest stop, then consider doing the Bluffs Ride portion which is a 15.1 mile loop to the finish, rather than doing the 3 mile direct ride back to Keuka College.
4 Rest Stops:
• The Olney Place on east side of Seneca Lake (open 8 am to 10:30 am)
-Regular route - 13 mile mark - Long route - 26 mile mark
•Bradford Volunteer FD in Bradford, near Lamoka Lake (9 am to noon)
- Long route only - water & light snacks only - 43 mile mark
•Depot Park in Hammondsport (open 9 am to 2 pm)
- Regular route - 26 mile mark - Long route - 65 mile mark
•Keuka Lake SP on north end of West Bluff of Keuka Lake (open 10 am to 4 pm)
- Regular route - 42 mile mark - Long route - 85 mile
Long Route: The long route adds some nice loops to the otherwise scenic Keuka Lake ride. The route starts out on the Old Seneca Mills trail right outside of Penn Yan and continues south through farm country. We will bike past a few Mennonite farms and may see some horse drawn buggies. After leaving the Olney Place rest stop, the route separates from the regular route to include Waneta & Lamoka Lakes, the 2 smaller lakes southeast of Keuka Lake. These smaller lakes may at one time have been part of Keuka Lake, making it an “X-shaped” lake when connected, whereas now it is the “Y-shaped” lake. There is a rest stop at the Bradford FD south of Lamoka Lake so that the riders have enough water and snacks before Hammondsport.
The long route then meets the regular route in Hammondsport, then bikes along West Lake Rd (Rt 54A) to Branchport and then into the rest stop at Keuka Lake SP. From Keuka Lake SP, the long route adds both the West and East Bluff Roads, cycling back to Keuka College.
Shorter route options for Long Route: If skip some of the long route loops, then you can shorten the ride:
•Skip the 16.7 mile Keuka Outlet Loop at beginning and save 13.4 miles
•Skip the 34.5 mile Waneta / Lamoka Lakes Loop and save 25.3 miles
•Skip the 15.1 mile Bluffs Ride and save 12.2 miles
